Bulgaria's August Inflation Rate Remains High at 5.3% (1) Bulgaria's annualized inflation rate was 5.3% in August, unchanged from the previous month and remaining at its highest level since November 2023. (2) Price increases for alcoholic beverages and tobacco widened (7.7% vs. 7.6% in July), while price increases accelerated in housing and utilities (8.5% vs. 8.4%), communications (4.8% vs. 4.1%), education (8.1% vs. 7.9%), and food and accommodation (9.0% vs. 8.3%). (3) The decline in clothing prices narrowed (-1.5% vs. -1.9%), while the decline in furniture and home appliance maintenance prices moderated (-0.3% vs. -0.7%). (4) The growth rate of entertainment and cultural products slowed (14.1% vs. 14.5%), while inflation for food and non-alcoholic beverages slowed (6.9% vs. 7.6%). ⑸ Consumer prices rose by 0.1% month-on-month in August, a significant slowdown from the 1.7% increase in the previous month.
