Botswana's Inflation Rate Rises Slightly to 1.4% in August: (1) Botswana's annualized inflation rate rose to 1.4% in August 2025, compared to a five-year low of 1.1% in the previous month. (2) The price increase for miscellaneous goods and services widened (7.9% vs. 7.5% in July), with insurance (13.4% vs. 12.9%) and personal care (5.8% vs. 4.8%) contributing the most. (3) Inflation rose for alcohol and tobacco (6.5% vs. 6.4%) and non-alcoholic beverages (5% vs. 4.3%), with fruit prices rising sharply (14.8% vs. 9.8%). (4) The decline in housing and utility prices narrowed (-3.7% vs. -4.2%), while the decline in transportation prices moderated (-1.6% vs. -1.9%). (5) The Consumer Price Index rose by 0.5% month-on-month in August, compared to a 0.7% decline in the previous month.
