Canada's wholesale sales growth hit a six-month high in July. (1) Canada's wholesale sales rose 1.2% month-over-month to CAD$86 billion in July 2025, the fastest growth since January. The previous figure was revised upward to 1.0%, slightly below market expectations of 1.3%. (2) Four of the seven sub-sectors saw growth, accounting for approximately three-quarters of total wholesale trade. (3) The motor vehicle and parts sub-sector grew 5.1% to CAD$15.4 billion (motor vehicle sales increased 5.9%), and the building materials supply sub-sector grew 2.7% to CAD$12.1 billion (lumber, hardware, and other building materials increased 2.7%), driving the growth. (4) The miscellaneous sub-sector fell 1.5% to CAD$10.7 billion, partially offsetting the overall increase. (5) Wholesale sales increased in seven provinces, led by Ontario (+1.5% to CAD$44.7 billion) and Alberta (+2.6% to CAD$9.5 billion).
