[Netanyahu acknowledges Israel's economic isolation, opposition criticizes him for reaping its own consequences] On the afternoon of the 15th local time, Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu acknowledged at a Finance Ministry meeting that Israel is currently facing increasing "economic isolation." He stated that as the fighting in the Gaza Strip continues, Israel may be forced to move towards a "self-sufficient economy," and therefore must become more self-reliant. He also stated that the development of Israel's military industry "may have" been hindered, and further strengthening of weapons research and production capabilities is needed. He accused European countries of turning anti-Israel and canceling arms sales agreements due to mass immigration, but stressed his belief that Israel can break free from isolation. After the meeting, Israeli opposition leader Lapid criticized Israel's economic isolation as a product of the "wrong and failed" policies of Netanyahu and his government.
