Japan opposes US call for higher tariffs on Russian oil imports, saying it's difficult to impose them. Japan's finance minister has rejected US calls to impose higher tariffs on India for importing Russian oil. Finance Minister Katsunobu Kato told reporters on Tuesday, "Japan has made commitments within the World Trade Organization to not impose tariffs exceeding the prescribed ceiling and to treat all member countries fairly, provided that other member countries comply with their obligations under the WTO agreement." He added, "It would be difficult for us to raise tariffs to, for example, 50% simply because a country imports oil from Russia."
