Acting NASA Administrator Sean Duffy announced on the 20th that due to SpaceX's lagging progress in developing the lander for the Artemis III lunar mission, the agency plans to reopen the contract to other American companies. Duffy stated on social media that day, "SpaceX currently holds the contract to build the Human Landing System, which will carry American astronauts to the moon on the Artemis III mission. However, competition and innovation are key to America's dominance in space, so NASA has decided to open production of the Human Landing System to other outstanding American companies, such as Blue Origin."
