[Canada's retail sales are expected to fall 0.7% month-on-month in September] ⑴Preliminary statistics show that Canada's retail sales are expected to fall 0.7% month-on-month in September, which will be the third largest decline this year. ⑵The data reversed the 1% growth in August, which was the second largest monthly increase in 2025. ⑶The growth in August came mainly from motor vehicle and parts dealers (+1.8%), with new car sales (+2.3%) and used car sales (+1.5%) driving both. ⑷Gas stations and fuel suppliers fell 2.0%, declining for the second consecutive month. ⑸Core retail sales rebounded 1.1% in August, after falling 1.2% in the previous month, mainly driven by sales growth in general stores (+2.4%) and clothing, footwear, jewelry and luggage retailers (+3.2%). ⑹Sales of building materials and gardening equipment fell slightly by 0.3%
