[Hungary and Azerbaijan Reach Natural Gas Purchase Agreement] Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó announced in Budapest on December 11 that Hungary will purchase 800 million cubic meters of natural gas from Azerbaijan over the next two years, according to an agreement already reached. Speaking at a joint press conference with visiting Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Céjón Bayramov, Szijjártó said that the Hungarian power company and Azerbaijan's state-owned oil company signed a framework agreement, paving the way for Hungary to purchase 1.1 million cubic meters of natural gas per day from Azerbaijan over the next two years. The actual purchase volume will be determined based on market conditions. Szijjártó also stated that Azerbaijan has allowed Hungarian power company and Azerbaijan's oil and gas company to become shareholders in its oil and gas fields, and that more energy cooperation agreements between the two countries are expected to be reached soon.
