[Indian Rupee Falls to Record Low as Inflation Rises Slightly] ⑴ The Indian rupee fell to a record low of 90.6 against the US dollar, primarily pressured by the lack of a trade agreement with the US and the continued withdrawal of foreign capital. ⑵ Dragged down by high US tariffs on exports, the rupee has fallen by more than 5% this year, becoming the worst-performing currency in Asia. ⑶ Ongoing negotiations remain key to the outlook; the Indian Prime Minister communicated with the US President this week, seeking tariff reductions of up to 50% on some Indian goods. ⑷ Meanwhile, India's consumer price inflation rose to 0.71% year-on-year in November, a slight increase from the record low of 0.25% in October, largely in line with market expectations of 0.7%. ⑸ Despite the rebound, the inflation rate has remained below the Reserve Bank of India's 2% tolerance threshold for the third consecutive month.
