[UN Security Council Deliberates on DRC Situation; China Urges Immediate Ceasefire] On the 12th local time, the UN Security Council held a public briefing and closed-door consultations on the situation in the Democratic Republic of Congo, focusing on the deteriorating security situation in the east and the future mandate of the United Nations Stabilization Mission in the DRC (MINUSTAH). The Chinese representative urged the Congolese rebels to immediately cease fire and called for a resolution to differences through sincere dialogue and negotiations, the lifting of restrictions on MINUSTAH's operations, and avoiding hasty adjustments to the mandate before conditions are ripe, in order to maintain the credibility of MINUSTAH and the Security Council.
