On Saturday afternoon, United Airlines Flight 803, a Boeing 777-200 bound for Tokyo, experienced an engine failure during takeoff and was forced to return to Dulles International Airport in northern Virginia. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) stated that it would investigate the flight. A United Airlines spokesperson said the flight landed shortly after takeoff due to a loss of power in one engine. No injuries were reported among the 275 passengers and 15 crew members on board. The company planned to use another aircraft to resume the flight later on Saturday.
