[Clinton Faces Republican Contempt of Congress Threat for Refusing to Testify in Epstein Case] According to The New York Times, Kentucky Republican Representative James Comer, chairman of the House Oversight Committee, has threatened to initiate contempt of Congress proceedings if former President Bill Clinton does not personally testify in the Epstein case. Clinton's camp previously stated that while he admitted to knowing Epstein in his memoir, he claimed he never visited Epstein's private island and severed ties with him approximately twenty years ago. However, flight records show that Clinton traveled internationally four times on Epstein's private plane in 2002 and 2003. In the United States, contempt of Congress carries a maximum penalty of one year in prison and a $100,000 fine. In 2022, when then-President Trump was subpoenaed by a special committee, he filed a lawsuit to try and prevent it, but the committee ultimately withdrew the subpoena.
