Reserve Bank of New Zealand Governor Brehman reiterated the forward path of the official cash rate announced in the November monetary policy statement, indicating a slightly increased likelihood of another rate cut in the near term. If economic conditions develop as expected, the official cash rate is likely to remain at its current level of 2.25% for some time. Since the November decision, financial market conditions have tightened to a degree exceeding the level implied by our forecast for the central level of the official cash rate.
