[ECOWAS Rejects Guinea-Bissau Military Transitional Plan] On March 14, the 68th Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) was held in Abuja, the capital of Nigeria. ECOWAS Commission Chairman Omar Touré read a communiqué after the summit, stating that ECOWAS rejected the transitional plan announced by the Guinea-Bissau military leadership, demanding the immediate release of all political prisoners and calling for the formation of a civilian-led transitional government. The summit also decided to authorize ECOWAS to establish a military mission in Guinea-Bissau. ECOWAS unanimously decided that if Guinea-Bissau does not comply with ECOWAS decisions, sanctions will be imposed on the relevant individuals or groups. (CCTV News)
