The UK will begin regulating crypto assets in October 2027, the Treasury said on Monday, adding that the rules are designed to provide certainty for the industry while excluding “bad actors.” The government will submit legislation to Parliament later Monday to extend existing financial regulation to companies engaged in crypto businesses, aligning the UK with the regulatory path of the US rather than the EU, which has established tailored rules for the sector. A Treasury spokesperson said that only minor changes have been made to a draft bill that would give regulatory power since it was published earlier this year.
