[Japan's Foreign Ministry May Establish Peace Mediation Agency] At a press conference, Chief Cabinet Secretary Minoru Kihara announced that the Japanese government is considering establishing a dedicated agency within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to handle the mediation and peaceful resolution of international conflicts. He pointed out that Tokyo plans to "actively and appropriately participate in peace mediation to ensure uninterrupted efforts from achieving peace to post-war reconstruction and recovery." He added that establishing a coordinating agency is a wise move, as it can fully utilize the expertise of various local departments within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which have maintained contact and trust with the parties to the conflicts.
