A report released by Counterpoint Research indicates that global smartphone shipments may decline by 2.1% next year due to memory chip shortages driving up costs and reducing production capacity. This contrasts sharply with the 3.3% growth forecast for this year, and the research firm had previously predicted a slight increase of 0.45% next year. The report, released Tuesday, points out that the average selling price of global smartphones will rise by 6.9% next year due to an overall increase of 10% to 25% in the cost of electronic components.
