On April 16th local time, the Japanese House of Councillors passed a supplementary budget for fiscal year 2025, totaling 18.3 trillion yen, a 31% increase compared to the supplementary budget for fiscal year 2024. The supplementary budget includes an additional 1.1 trillion yen for defense-related expenses; together with the initial budget of 9.9 trillion yen, total defense spending for fiscal year 2025 will reach approximately 11 trillion yen, accounting for 2% of GDP. Due to a significant shortfall in funding, the Japanese government will issue an additional 11.69 trillion yen in government bonds. (CCTV News)
