[Eurozone Manufacturing PMI Hits Eight-Month Low in December] ⑴ The preliminary reading of the Eurozone Manufacturing Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) for December fell to 49.2, the lowest in eight months, below November's 49.6 and market expectations of 49.9. ⑵ The data shows a deterioration in manufacturing conditions, with the weak performance mainly attributed to a worsening recession in German industry. On the other hand, French industry showed signs of cautious recovery, but the single-month data should not be over-interpreted. ⑶ In the Eurozone, manufacturing output declined slightly, ending nine consecutive months of expansion. New business from overseas also decreased, and the number of employees continued to decline. ⑷ In terms of prices, input costs rose at the fastest pace since August 2024, while ex-factory prices remained largely unchanged. On the other hand, business confidence improved somewhat.
