[International First: my country's Research Opens a New Field in Two-Dimensional Metal Research] The Institute of Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, announced that its achievement in "the first preparation of two-dimensional metal" has been selected as one of the "Top 10 Scientific Breakthroughs of 2025" by Physics World, a publication of the British Institute of Physics. This marks the seventh time since the list's inception in 2009 that research led by my country has received this honor, and it is the only Chinese achievement selected this year. In March 2025, Zhang Guangyu's team successfully developed a single-atom-layer metal with a thickness only one two-hundred-thousandth the diameter of a human hair. This is the first time internationally that large-area two-dimensional metal materials have been prepared, opening a new field in two-dimensional metal research. This material could bring technological innovation to fields such as ultra-miniature low-power transistors and transparent displays, signifying that my country has achieved an internationally leading position in the field of atomic manufacturing of two-dimensional materials.
