[EU Announces €1 Billion Investment to Promote Joint European Defence R&D] On the 17th local time, the European Commission announced that it will invest €1 billion in joint defense R&D under the 2026 European Defence Fund (EDF) work plan. A press release issued by the Commission that day showed that the investment plan will fund 31 cooperative R&D projects in key priority areas of member states, covering core defense capabilities, future technologies, and defense innovation. Since its launch in 2021, the European Defence Fund has supported 224 projects with a total investment of approximately €4 billion. (CCTV)
