[US Blockade of Venezuelan Oil Tankers Causes Nearly 2% Rise in International Oil Prices] On December 17th local time, US President Trump ordered a complete blockade of all sanctioned oil tankers entering and leaving Venezuela, triggering escalating geopolitical concerns and pushing international crude oil prices up by nearly 2%. As of 13:02 London time, Brent crude futures rose 99 cents, or about 1.7%, to $59.91 per barrel; West Texas Intermediate crude rose 97 cents, or about 1.8%, to $56.24 per barrel.
