[Landslide in Southeast Senegal Kills 6 Gold Miners] A landslide occurred in Saraya Province, Kaidougou Region, southeastern Senegal, early on the 17th local time, killing six people. According to Baba Camara, head of the Saraya health district in Kaidougou Region, the landslide occurred at a site belonging to a Senegalese gold mining company. The six deceased were all men in their 20s who had entered the mining area without permission. Two others were seriously injured and have been hospitalized. Security authorities in Kaidougou Region have been conducting clean-up operations on illegal gold mining sites in recent years, as the area is frequently frequented by Senegalese and other West African nationals engaged in unlicensed gold mining activities.
