Tammo Diemer, co-head of the German Federal Finance Agency, said Germany plans to sell 20-year government bonds with the first issuance scheduled for 2026. This comes after Germany relaxed strict fiscal rules earlier this year in an effort to increase sales by expanding the range of debt products. The German Finance Agency believes that market demand for 20-year bonds is growing, especially given that reforms to the Dutch pension system are expected to dampen market appetite for longer-term bonds, a niche maturity that has previously been met with a lukewarm reception in the United States.
