Twenty-five Democratic lawmakers, led by Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren and Pennsylvania Representative Madeline Dean, sent a letter to the Commerce Department's Inspector General's office on Thursday, requesting an investigation into Commerce Secretary Andrew Lutnick for allegedly improperly promoting an artificial intelligence data center project to benefit his family members. An investigation last month revealed that Lutnick's official actions since taking office have consistently overlapped with those of his former companies. He previously transferred his role in the Cantor Fitzgerald corporate network to his two sons, and now all four children jointly hold controlling stakes. Furthermore, many of his official actions have intersected with projects of family-affiliated companies. For example, in tariff negotiations with South Korea, he requested billions of dollars in investment from South Korea to support U.S. industries. Cantor and Newmark are also assisting in financing a proposed AI data center in Amarillo, Texas, which is seeking a share of South Korean funding.
