CFTC Positions: Investors increased net long positions in gold and crude oil, but reduced net long positions in silver.

Data from the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) shows that in the week ending January 13, COMEX gold speculators increased their net long positions by 12,292 contracts to 136,548 contracts, while COMEX copper futures speculators decreased their net long positions by 4,721 contracts to 62,175 contracts. COMEX silver speculators reduced their net long positions by 2,613 contracts to 15,045 contracts.

As of the week ending January 13, oil speculators turned to holding 8,689 net long contracts for West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude oil, an increase of 20,670 contracts from the previous week.

As of the week ending January 13, natural gas speculators increased their net long positions by 11,475 contracts to 90,991 contracts across the four major markets: the New York Mercantile Exchange (NYMEX) and the Intercontinental Exchange (ICE).

As of the week ending January 13, equity fund speculators increased their net short positions in the CME S&P 500 by 34,096 contracts to 449,113 contracts; while equity fund managers reduced their net long positions in the CME S&P 500 by 31,459 contracts to 932,309 contracts.

As of the week ending January 13, 2026, the net short position in Japanese yen was 45,164 contracts, the net long position in euro was 132,656 contracts, and the net short position in British pound was 25,270 contracts.

As of the week ending January 13, speculators reduced their net short positions in Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT) U.S. ultra-long-term Treasury futures by 10,650 contracts to 235,097 contracts.

As of the week ending January 13, speculators reduced their net short positions in 2-year U.S. Treasury futures on the Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT) by 41,774 contracts to 1,304,880 contracts; they reduced their net short positions in 5-year U.S. Treasury futures on the CBOT by 43,633 contracts to 2,269,120 contracts; and they reduced their net short positions in 10-year U.S. Treasury futures on the CBOT by 45,047 contracts to 870,505 contracts.

As of the week ending January 13, ICE cotton speculators' net short positions decreased by 454 contracts to 50,638 contracts; ICE cocoa speculators' net short positions increased by 14,609 contracts to 14,992 contracts; ICE sugar speculators increased their net short positions by 10,433 contracts to 181,188 contracts; and iced coffee speculators' net long positions increased by 149 contracts to 19,943 contracts.
