The CFTC Commitment of Traders report showed a slight increase in gold long positions, while bullish sentiment towards crude oil cooled.

Data from the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) shows that in the week ending March 31, gold speculators on the New York Mercantile Exchange (COMEX) increased their net long positions by 1,098 contracts to 93,872 contracts; silver speculators decreased their net long positions by 99 contracts to 10,816 contracts; and copper futures speculators increased their net long positions by 3,491 contracts to 39,292 contracts.

As of the week ending March 31, crude oil speculators reduced their net long positions in WTI crude oil by 23,898 contracts to 103,707 contracts.

In the week ending March 31, speculators in the four major natural gas markets—the New York Mercantile Exchange (NYMEX), the Intercontinental Exchange (ICE), and the New York Mercantile Exchange (NYMEX)—reduced their net long positions by 11,945 contracts to 82,872 contracts.

As of the week ending March 31, the net long position in the euro was 507 contracts, the net short position in the yen was -72,872 contracts, the net short position in the pound was -52,665 contracts, and the net short position in the Swiss franc was -29,871 contracts.

As of the week ending March 31, equity fund managers increased their net long positions in CME S&P 500 futures by 39,730 contracts to 912,682 contracts, while decreasing their net short positions by 113,496 contracts to 215,932 contracts.

As of the week ending March 31, speculators increased their net short positions in Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT) 5-year U.S. Treasury futures by 138,404 contracts to 1,586,840 contracts. Net short positions in 2-year U.S. Treasury futures also increased by 138,404 contracts to 1,586,840 contracts. Net short positions in 2-year U.S. Treasury futures decreased by 855 contracts to 1,637,324 contracts.

As of the week ending March 31, ICE cotton speculators' net long positions increased by 21,606 contracts to 28,743 contracts, while ICE cocoa speculators' net short positions increased by 1,145 contracts to 33,347 contracts. ICE sugar speculators' net short positions decreased by 27,097 contracts to 99,054 contracts, and iced coffee speculators' net long positions increased by 2,072 contracts to 18,013 contracts.

As of the week ending March 31, CBOT wheat speculators' net short positions decreased by 7,238 contracts to 58,865 contracts, CBOT corn speculators' net long positions decreased by 26,026 contracts to 132,955 contracts, and CBOT soybean speculators' net long positions increased by 12,252 contracts to 121,048 contracts.
