A minute later, a second drone flew into the gap left by the first drone and exploded. US officials stated that the attack hit a secure area of the embassy and caused severe damage to multiple floors. A CIA station in the area was also among those attacked. The Saudi Arabian Ministry of Defense stated on March 3 that, according to preliminary assessments, the US Embassy was attacked by two drones that day, causing a localized fire and minor damage to the embassy building.
