[South Korea Plans to Increase Renewable Energy Share to 20%] South Korea's Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment announced on the 6th that it plans to increase the share of renewable energy in its electricity generation to at least 20% by 2030 in order to reduce its heavy reliance on imported energy and cope with the increased electricity demand brought about by the development of high-end industries. According to the plan presented by the Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment at a cabinet meeting, South Korea will vigorously develop solar and wind power generation, expanding the renewable energy power supply capacity to 100 gigawatts by 2030, and gradually shutting down 60 coal-fired power plants by 2040. Last year, renewable energy accounted for 11.4% of South Korea's total electricity generation. (Xinhua)
