The ECB President stated that the likelihood of an adverse inflation scenario is increasing. Inflation expectations may shift more quickly due to lingering memories of the soaring prices following the Russia-Ukraine conflict in 2022. The ECB must be prepared to act if signs of sustained inflation emerge. It is too early to judge whether an interest rate hike on April 30th is necessary. Inflation expectations are currently stable, and the second wave of impacts has not yet materialized.
