[Amazon and U.S. Postal Service Reach New Agreement: Postal Service to Retain 80% of Parcel Delivery Volume] (1) Amazon announced a new parcel delivery agreement with the U.S. Postal Service, under which the Postal Service will retain approximately 80% of its existing delivery volume, a significant improvement from Amazon's previous threats to cut by two-thirds or more. The Postal Service warned last month that it could run out of cash as early as October. (2) The Postal Service has an annual budget of approximately $80 billion and receives approximately $6 billion in annual revenue from Amazon, delivering approximately 1.7 billion parcels for Amazon each year. The Postal Service has incurred a net loss of $118 billion since 2007 and has applied for temporary price increases and other measures to address rising costs. (3) Amazon will continue to expand its delivery capacity, but its growth will not be large enough to completely replace the Postal Service's door-to-door delivery capabilities. Both parties stated that the new agreement further deepens their long-term partnership.
