[Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza Outbreak in Four Districts of Nepal] A Nepalese government official stated on the 7th that four districts in two provinces of Nepal have experienced outbreaks of highly pathogenic avian influenza (H5N1) this year. Indira Sharma, a press officer with the Livestock Service Department under the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development, told Xinhua News Agency that the H5N1 highly pathogenic avian influenza virus has been detected in 23 poultry farms in four districts: Morang, Sunsari, Chaba in Goshi province, and Chitwan in Bagmati province. Morang district reported the country's first avian influenza outbreak this year on March 18th. Sharma said, "We are making every effort to control the spread of the epidemic." According to statistics from the Nepalese Livestock Service Department, as of the 4th of this month, approximately 114,000 poultry have been culled and approximately 212,000 eggs have been destroyed in the affected areas.
