[Philippines' February Budget Deficit Narrows Slightly to 171.2 Billion Pesos] ⑴ The Philippines' budget deficit for February 2026 was 171.2 billion pesos, slightly narrower than the 171.4 billion pesos in the same period last year. Government revenue increased significantly by 43.52% year-on-year to 361.3 billion pesos, mainly driven by a surge in non-tax revenue, reflecting the advance receipt of dividends earned in 2025 during the month. ⑵ Government spending increased by 25.83% to 532.5 billion pesos, mainly due to the delayed disbursement of national tax revenue allocations in January and the lump-sum allocation for the Autonomous Region of Boomsamoro in Muslim Mindanao until early February, as well as the disbursement of the tobacco excise tax—a special share of national tax revenue for local governments. ⑶ In the first two months of this year, the budget deficit shrank to 5.8 billion pesos, a significant decrease of 94.4% compared to 103.1 billion pesos in the same period last year.
