The Panamanian government emphasized that allowing First Quantum to remove the stockpiled ore from its closed copper mines was primarily aimed at managing the environmental risks arising from long-term ore storage, particularly the potential hazards from acidic rock drainage. Furthermore, the project is expected to directly create approximately 700 jobs and indirectly boost employment in logistics, services, and other sectors. It is projected that by 2026, revenue from concentrate sales will be able to offset some of the mine's maintenance costs.
