Following United Airlines and JetBlue, Delta Air Lines and Southwest Airlines have also announced increases in checked baggage fees. Delta stated that starting this Wednesday, the fee for the first checked bag on newly purchased tickets will increase by $10. This fee adjustment comes as the airline industry is suffering from the impact of a sharp rise in fuel costs. Southwest Airlines stated in a press release: "As part of an ongoing business review, and in light of the evolving global situation, Southwest Airlines has decided to increase the fee for the first and second checked bags by $10. This applies to all new or voluntary changes to tickets booked on or after April 9, 2026."
