[US-Iran Ceasefire Pressures Natural Gas Market; Analysts Warn Against Premature Relaxation] ⑴ The US and Iran reached a two-week ceasefire agreement and reopened the Strait of Hormuz, putting downward pressure on US natural gas futures. The price of natural gas on the New York Mercantile Exchange was $2.766 per million British thermal units (MMBtu), a drop of 3.6%. ⑵ EBW Analytics analyst Eli Rubin pointed out that since US LNG terminals are already operating at full capacity, the war's short-term fundamental impact on US natural gas was already negligible. However, the ceasefire agreement eliminated unresolved macroeconomic risks, opening the door to selling pressure. ⑶ However, Rubin added that it is too early to sound the alarm for complete safety. Oil and LNG shipping may take months to fully return to the new normal, and damage to oil and gas production infrastructure, including Qatar LNG, may last even longer.
