[Ceasefire Agreement Draws Criticism from Both Supporters and Opponents of the Iranian Regime] Both Iran and the United States consider the two-week ceasefire a victory. However, the ceasefire has been met with resistance from both pro-government figures and pro-Western opposition groups within Iran. Iranian officials and government supporters say the regime is under pressure from its hardliners, who demand continued fighting, especially after Israel's continued attacks on Hezbollah, Iran's ally in Lebanon. A conservative cleric in Mashhad, Iran's second-largest city in northeastern Iran, said, "Many people are disappointed, even more are skeptical, and Israel has not adhered to the agreement to include Lebanon in the ceasefire." The cleric believes, "This will ultimately create a situation where Iran deals with Israel itself, without US intervention, which would be a great gift." Meanwhile, a resident of Isfahan, a city in central Iran, expressed disappointment. He had participated in anti-government protests in January. This resident was unhappy with US President Trump's decision not to attack Iranian power plants. He stated that they were prepared to endure war and live without electricity. He added that Trump had betrayed them once again, referring to his promise in January to support the protests but later deciding not to intervene.
