[IFO Survey: German Chemical Industry Confidence Falls to Nearly Three-Year Low] (1) A survey by the German think tank IFO shows that, affected by the global supply chain disruptions caused by the war with Iran, the confidence of German chemical companies fell to its lowest level in nearly three years in April, further declining from -25.1 points in March to -29.0 points. (2) The survey shows that the supply chain disruptions have led to an increase in new orders, but the shortage of raw materials remains the main challenge—one in three companies is affected. (3) Companies plan to further raise prices to cope with rising costs, but believe that the increase in demand is only temporary and will cut production in the coming months. (4) Despite the deterioration of the confidence index, the assessment of the current situation has improved slightly, rising from -31.2 points in March to -27.1 points in April. As a pillar industry of Germany, the chemical industry is extremely sensitive to global trade disruptions and energy and raw material costs.
