A supertanker carrying Iraqi crude oil that sailed out of the Persian Gulf on Sunday appeared to have stopped before approaching a U.S. naval blockade and has now turned back into the Gulf of Oman. Ship tracking data shows that the "Agios Fanourios I," a very large crude carrier, transited the Strait of Hormuz into the Gulf of Oman over the weekend and is now turning back at a low speed of about 5 knots along its original route. The ship was previously carrying crude oil from the Basra oil terminal and its current destination is still listed as the Nghe Son refinery in Vietnam. The "Agios Fanourios I" stopped briefly before entering the Arabian Sea before turning back to the Gulf of Oman. Iran's semi-official Tasnim News Agency previously reported that the ship was sailing along a route designated by Tehran when it passed through the Strait of Hormuz. (CCTV)
