[Nigeria President Confirms Killing of Senior ISIS Leader] On May 16, local time, Nigerian President Tinub issued a statement confirming that Abu-Bilal Minuki, a senior leader of the Islamic State (IS), had been killed in a recent joint military operation between Nigeria and the United States. Preliminary assessments confirmed that coalition forces killed the wanted senior leader and several of his deputies during an attack on his residence in the Lake Chad Basin. On May 15, Eastern Time, US President Trump also confirmed the news, noting that Abu-Bilal Minuki, as IS's second-in-command globally, had been operating from Africa, coordinating global terrorist activities related to the extremist group.
