[80% of British Businesses Already or Expected to Be Impacted by Middle East Tensions] A survey released by the British Chambers of Commerce on the 25th revealed that 80% of surveyed businesses have already been or expect to be affected by the tense situation in the Middle East, particularly in the manufacturing sector. Of the more than 800 companies surveyed, 55% reported being directly affected by the situation, while another 25% expected to be affected. Among manufacturing companies, 68% reported being impacted, and 23% said they would be affected soon. Rising energy, transportation, and raw material costs are the biggest factors affecting these businesses. 75% of surveyed companies indicated that their energy expenditures would increase in the coming year; 43% expected energy costs to increase by more than 20% in the coming year.
