[NASA Plans to Add Six Crewed Missions to SpaceX, Totaling Nearly $1.7 Billion] ⑴ NASA issued a procurement notice announcing its intention to add six post-certification crewed missions to SpaceX in addition to its existing Commercial Crew Transportation Capability (CST) contract. ⑵ NASA stated that up to three of the missions will be finalized immediately upon the contract's implementation, with the remaining three to be scheduled based on demand until the International Space Station (ISS) is scheduled to cease operations in 2030. ⑶ The reasons for this addition are primarily based on: recent reductions in ISS stay durations, technical glitches and delays encountered by Boeing, mission allocation between the two companies, and technical challenges in maintaining reliable crewed transportation capabilities. ⑷ Boeing's CST-100 Starliner spacecraft has not yet obtained crewed flight certification, and its latest mission list does not include cargo missions. ⑸ The contract amounts for these six new missions have not yet been publicly disclosed. Based on the standard of approximately $287 million per mission in 2022, the total value of this additional contract may approach $1.7 billion.
