According to sources familiar with the matter, Occidental Petroleum is poised to acquire a 10% stake in a deep-sea exploration and development block in the Trinidad and Tobago offshore region held by ExxonMobil. This block is adjacent to Guyana's extremely rich Stabroek block, and while the industry has high expectations for its resource prospects, the exploration and development risks in the block remain at a high level. ExxonMobil is currently conducting seismic surveys in the block, and the analysis and interpretation of the relevant exploration data is expected to be completed by the end of 2026.
