[Canada and Germany Reach LNG Supply Agreement to Help Carney Expand Diversified Exports] (1) Canada has reached an agreement to supply liquefied natural gas (LNG) to Germany from a proposed facility on its west coast. This is good news for Prime Minister Mark Carney, who plans to double his exports to non-US markets. (2) The gas will come from the Ksi Lisims LNG project, a proposed export plant located in northwestern British Columbia near the Alaskan Panhandle, with an investment of C$10 billion (approximately US$7.2 billion). (3) Under the terms of the agreement, Germany has agreed to purchase up to 1 million tons of LNG annually from Canada, equivalent to more than a month's worth of electricity for New York City. Sources say Canadian Energy Minister Tim Hodgson will announce the agreement on Wednesday.
