Two weeks ago, it stated that it was processing over $35.5 billion in refund requests, but now it has clarified that the figure was overestimated by approximately $10 billion, and the actual amount is approximately $25 billion, due to an unintentional error in the data query. (3) The CAPE system is a refund processing system developed by CBP after the Supreme Court overturned most of Trump's tariffs. As of May 22, the system had accepted approximately $85 billion in potential and certified refund requests. (4) The $20.6 billion in this case represents funds that have entered the final disbursement stage, including interest and tariff principal. In addition, CBP is processing over 53 million customs declarations involving refunds totaling up to $166 billion.
