[US Denies Visas to Russian and Iranian Officials for UN Meeting] On May 26, local time, Russia's Permanent Representative to the UN, Nebenzia, stated in a Security Council address that the Russian delegation should have sent Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Alimov, responsible for UN affairs, to the meeting, but the US refused to grant him a visa. This violated the obligations under the "United Nations-US Agreement on the Headquarters of the United Nations," which stipulates that "all officials of UN member states have the right to enter the UN Headquarters." According to the Iranian Foreign Ministry on May 25, Iranian Foreign Minister Araqchi was also unable to attend the same Security Council meeting due to "visa issues."
