[Netherlands sees gasoline car sales halved, hybrids dominate EU market, pure electric vehicles approach 20%] ⑴ Data from the European Automobile Manufacturers Association shows that in April, sales of new gasoline cars in the Netherlands plummeted by about 50% compared to the same period last year, while diesel car sales fell by nearly 24%. Across the EU, sales of gasoline and diesel cars generally declined, but overall new car sales still recorded growth, mainly due to a nearly 38% year-on-year increase in pure electric vehicle sales, with monthly sales exceeding 200,000 units. ⑵ Hybrid vehicles continue to be the most popular in the EU market, with a market share of 38.2% in April. In the first four months of this year, the combined market share of gasoline and diesel cars has shrunk to slightly above 30%, while the market share of pure electric vehicles has approached one-fifth. ⑶ Total new car sales in the Netherlands fell by about 5% in April, with pure electric models dominating. The Dutch Association of Used Car Dealers previously stated that the demand for used electric vehicles has almost doubled due to the sharp rise in gasoline and diesel prices caused by the Middle East conflict and the closure of the Strait of Hormuz.
