[German Economic Experts' Council Lowers Growth Forecast to 0.5% Again, Middle East Conflict and Rising Energy Prices are the Biggest Drags] ⑴ The German Economic Experts' Council on Wednesday lowered its growth forecast for Europe's largest economy, citing the Middle East conflict, rising energy prices, and the impact of US trade policies. According to its spring report submitted to the government, economists now expect Germany's economy to grow by 0.5% this year, down from the 0.9% forecast in November. The growth rate for 2027 is projected at 0.8%. ⑵ The German Ministry of Economic Affairs lowered its economic growth forecasts for 2026 and 2027 in April, while raising its inflation forecast. The government now expects economic growth of 0.5% in 2026, down from the previous forecast of 1.0%; the 2027 growth forecast was lowered from 1.3% to 0.9%.
