[Switzerland's non-farm payrolls rose 0.5% year-on-year to 5.537 million in the first quarter] ⑴ Switzerland's non-farm payrolls rose 0.5% year-on-year to 5.537 million in the first quarter, a faster increase than the 0.2% growth in the previous quarter. ⑵ The growth was mainly driven by the service sector, which saw employment rise 0.6% to 4.409 million, supported by increases in administrative and support services, public administration, and the arts, entertainment, and leisure sectors. Declines were seen in publishing, audiovisual and broadcasting, telecommunications, and finance and insurance. ⑶ Meanwhile, industrial employment rebounded 0.1% to 1.129 million after falling 0.1% in the fourth quarter, driven by growth in mining and quarrying, electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply, and construction, offsetting declines in manufacturing and water supply and waste management sectors.
