[US inflation hits three-year high in April; Fed may keep interest rates unchanged for long] (1) Affected by the war with Iran pushing up energy prices, the US PCE surged 3.8% year-on-year in April, the largest increase since May 2023; the March data was revised to 3.5%. (2) Core PCE, excluding food and energy, rose 3.3% year-on-year, higher than March's 3.2%. The Fed uses PCE as a reference for its 2% inflation target. (3) Financial markets expect the Fed to keep the benchmark interest rate in the 3.50%-3.75% range until 2027.
